Born in Alto Lucero, Veracruz in 1947, “Franny From the Neighborhood” is a beloved performer in both her native Mexico and the United States. Generations of women on both sides of the border have found strength and solidarity in her humorous yet empowering songs that take a stance against sexist macho culture.

Paquita shot to fame in 1970 when she moved to Mexico City and began lending her voice to songs of pride and courage, such as “Me Saludas A La Tuya,” “Cheque En Blanco (Blank Check)” “Taco Placero (Bland Taco)” and “Borrate.” Her biggest hits include “Rata De Dos Patas (Two-Legged Rat)” “Hipócrita (Hypocrite)” and “Hombres Malvados (Wicked Men).” Paquita’s signature phrase — “¿Me estás oyendo, inútil?” (“Are you listening to me, you good-for-nothing?”) — is sure to get a big reaction from her devoted fans.

Lauded for her artistic and cultural contributions, Paquita has received numerous honors throughout her career, including the Lifetime Achievement at the 2016 Premios Lo Nuestro awards. Three of her albums have earned Grammy nominations: Puro Dolor (Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album, 2007), Eres Un Farsante (Best Regional Mexican/Tejano Album, 2011) and Romeo Y Su Nieta (Best Regional Mexican Music Album, 2013). Her most recent album, La Leyenda De Barrio, was released in 2015.

Prepare for an evening of classic Paquita on Saturday, April 13th in the Spotlight Showroom!
