Spotlight 29 Casino is proud to present the 70s Soul Jam on Saturday, July 27th at 8 p.m. The 70s Soul Jam features Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, Comedian Jimmie “JJ” Walker and The Stylistics.

Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes strive to keep Harold Melvin’s music legacy alive.  The group currently consists of Donnell “Big Daddy” Gillespie, Rufus Thorne, Anthony Brooks and John Morris. The original group was one of the most popular Philadelphia soul groups of the 1970s and along with lead singer Melvin, featured Teddy Pendergrass. The group enjoyed hits with “If You Don’t Know Me By Now,” “I Miss You,” and “Bad Luck.”

Jimmie “JJ” Walker has been entertaining audiences from around the world for over four decades.  He first achieved success as a stand up comedian in Harlem in the late 60s and early 70s, earning him Time Magazine’s“Comedian of the Decade” for the 1970s. But Walker is probably best know as portraying JJ on the TV series “Good Times” and his catch phrase "Dyn-o-mite!"

The Stylistics were formed in Philadelphia in 1966, merging two groups – The Percussions and The Monarchs. During the 1970s the group had 12 consecutive R&B top 10 hits including “Stop, Look, Listen,” “You Are Everything,” and “You Make Me Feel Brand New.”
